Escondido Police received a call stating that a male, identified as 48-year-old Douglas Quinn, was sleeping in a sleeping bag on the porch of a mobile home.. As officers began to detain Quinn, he turned and began to run. He also began reaching into his waistband. Quinn then pulled a firearm from his waistband, pointed it across his body at the officers, and fired multiple rounds. Quinn was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
